Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form of energy, such as using wind turbines to make electricity, windmills for mechanical power, wind pumps for water pumping or drainage. Wind power, as an alternative to fossil fuels, is plentiful, renewable, clean, produces no greenhouse gas emissions during operation, and uses little land. Compared to the environmental impact of traditional energy sources, the environmental impact of wind power is relatively minor. Wind power consumes no fuel, and emits no air pollution. Wind farms need to be located in windy areas for greater efficiency, which often leads them to be placed on the top of ridges and hills. A wind resource map produced by the National Renewable Energy Lab is located below to help you determine whether your property has a sufficient wind resource to consider investing in a system.
