Off-grid power systems are self-contained and operate with no connection to a utility grid. They are typically used where utility power is unavailable. Both AC Solar Power Systems (for normal appliances) and DC Solar Power Systems (usually for specialized lighting and pumping systems) can utilize battery banks that are bolstered by backup generators. These last two components make off-grid solar power much more cost prohibitive than grid-tied solar power. |
