The most common solar electric systems are grid-tied, meaning connected to a utility grid. They generate power on-site to offset some or all of the electricity that would otherwise be purchased from a utility company.
These systems have three main components:
Solar PV Panels - Photovoltaic (PV) panels convert sunlight directly into DC (direct current) electricity.
Inverter - Converts the DC to standard AC electricity that is compatible with the electrical grid and capable of powering electrical devices.
Utility Meter - Calculates the solar electricity your system produces and communicates with a utility to track the credit you earn.
